Piano Lessons Rooted in the Russian Piano School

I teach piano to children and adults in Barrington, both in my studio and in students homes, building lessons around ear training, rhythm, note reading, harmony, and improvisation rather than rote repetition. My approach comes directly from the Russian Piano School tradition I trained in, adapted to what each student actually needs.

A piano lesson built purely around repeating pieces teaches a student to memorize, not to actually understand music. My training in the Russian Piano School tradition, through music college in Yaroslavl and pedagogical university in St. Petersburg, shapes a very different approach.
