Bells Market

European supermarket in Northeast Philadelphia: produce, pickles, cakes

Hand-picked produce, Certified Angus Beef cut in the store, pickles from the pickle bar and hot dishes for dinner: the independent Bells Market has fed the neighborhood familiar European flavors, and everything an ordinary week requires, since 1995.

Start at the produce department: eggplants to fruit of every kind, all selected by hand. No time to cook? The hot foods case has dinner for tonight, and the pickle bar next to it offers pickled cucumbers and other jarred pickles.

The bakery makes bread, rolls and muffins every day, and for a celebration you can pick up a cake, Imperial among them. The meat counter cuts Certified Angus Beef steaks on the spot and offers barbecue half chickens.

For dinner and for the holiday table, you will also find:
- Dietz and Watson deli meats, cheeses and ready vegetable platters
- Salmon, basa, porgy and shrimp on ice, smoked fish and smoked herring
- Jars of caviar for a festive spread
- Milk, feta and organic eggs
- Canned goods, pantry staples and boxed items to stock up for the week

Stop in on the way home: the shopping list usually ends up shorter than the basket.
