Russian School of Houston
Russian Language and Astronomy Classes for Kids
Russian School of Houston has taught Russian to children as young as 3 every Saturday since 2002, carrying the name of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin as a nod to a Young Astronomers Club that runs alongside the language classes for kids 8 and up. Classes run in person and over Zoom, so a family that moves across Houston - or even out of town - does not have to lose their spot.
The school is tied to Kindness without Limits, a nonprofit that has organized Russian-American cultural activities in the Houston area since 1999, so classes often connect to a broader calendar of community events rather than existing in isolation. The Young Astronomers Club gives older kids a specific reason to keep coming back beyond the language lessons themselves - a rare combination for a Saturday school.
Sessions have run continuously for over two decades, through both in-person Saturdays and remote Zoom classes when needed, with the same small, consistent teaching team parents have come to know by name.
