Russian Orthodox Cathedral

Holy Virgin Cathedral has served San Francisco Russian Orthodox community since 1927, with the current cathedral building consecrated in 1965. The cathedral holds the relics of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, the Wonderworker, drawing pilgrims and worshippers from across the country, and conducts Liturgy, Vespers, and Matins daily.

The parish runs its own choirs and a Russian-language school, Sts. Cyril and Methodius, alongside an active Sisterhood that organizes charitable events, traditional meals after major feast days, and support for the wider community.

Beyond regular services, the cathedral hosts an annual Lenten retreat, participates in local pilgrimages such as the yearly trip to Fort Ross, and streams its services online for those unable to attend in person. Friday Liturgies are conducted in English to welcome English-speaking worshippers alongside the parish's Russian-speaking congregation.
