St. John of Kronstadt Russian Orthodox Church
Russian Orthodox Parish in San Diego
St. John of Kronstadt Russian Orthodox Church is a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, part of the Western American Diocese. Services are held in Church Slavonic, with sermons in both Russian and English, so both lifelong parishioners and newcomers to Orthodoxy feel at home. The parish has served San Diego since 1969.
The parish traces back to the late 1960s, when Father Michael Lightfoot founded a home church in his garage in Point Loma. The current church building was purchased and restored by the founding parishioners and consecrated in October 1969. The church underwent a major renovation and expanded its altar area in 2001, and in 2009 an addition was built that moved the dining hall indoors and enlarged the church itself.
Vespers is celebrated on Saturdays at 6:00 PM, and Divine Liturgy on Sundays at 10:00 AM, with confession heard during Vespers and before the Liturgy. Services are also held on weekdays during major feast weeks. A Sunday school for children opens each September.
