Ukrainian borscht, stuffed cabbage rolls, dumplings and honey cake

Ruta opened in Washington in April 2023 as the first Ukrainian restaurant in the DMV area, and set the tone from day one: warm hospitality, home cooking and Ukrainian culture on every table. Borscht with hot pampushky, tender stuffed cabbage rolls, dumplings with a variety of fillings, Chicken Kyiv and beef stroganoff. And for dessert, a honey cake that visitors have honored.

Ruta sets records for more than flavor. The kitchen made the biggest stuffed cabbage roll in the world: 137 kilograms, filled with 1,830 small cabbage rolls. That is Ukrainian generosity, and it lives in every dish on the menu.

- Odesa herring pate and a vinaigrette salad
- Green borscht and classic borscht with pampushky
- Potato pancakes, banosh cornmeal and the Cossack bowl
- Homemade noodles and Polish bigos stew
- Pork ribs and prime ribeye
- Cherry dumplings and sweet cheese pancakes
- Apple strudel and Ruta cake

Raise a glass of something special: the black currant nalyvka, a traditional Ukrainian fruit liqueur, won a beverage award in 2025. Weekend brunch is served as well.
