Holy Myrrhbearing Women Orthodox Church

One of the Oldest Russian Orthodox Parishes

The parish of the Holy Myrrhbearing Women Orthodox Church in West Sacramento has existed for a hundred years and belongs to the Central Pacific Deanery of the Western American Diocese. In May 2025, the parish's newly built church was solemnly consecrated by Archbishop Veniamin of San Francisco, in the very year the community marked its centennial. Today the parish brings together people from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, and America.

The parish was founded nearly a hundred years ago by Russian-speaking emigres forced to leave their homeland during difficult historical times. Women formed the backbone of the community and were the parish's founders - it was their own hands and labor that built the first church, which is why it is dedicated to the Holy Myrrhbearing Women. Throughout the twentieth century, this parish remained a spiritual home for the Russian-speaking diaspora on the West Coast.

In 2025, the very year the community marked its centennial, construction of the new church building was completed, and on May 4 of that year Archbishop Veniamin of San Francisco led its Great Consecration and celebrated the festal Divine Liturgy. Today the parish remains a place of prayer and gathering for people from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, and America, and everyone who comes finds a warm welcome and spiritual support.
