St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral
Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Since 1927
Founded in 1927 and at its present location on St. Joseph Boulevard West since 1964, St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral is part of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, under the Canadian Diocese and His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel. Parishioners are mainly Russian immigrants, immigrants from other Slavic countries, and Quebecers alike - all welcome who are looking for a place to worship, to gather in prayer, and to rest from the demands of everyday life. Services follow the old-style Julian calendar, and the parish's own Alexander Pushkin School has taught Russian language, faith, and culture to children on Saturdays since 1937.
St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral has stood on St. Joseph Boulevard West since 1964, and served Montreal's Russian Orthodox community since the parish's founding in 1927. It belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, within the Canadian Diocese under His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel.
Parishioners are mainly Russian immigrants and immigrants from other Slavic countries, alongside Quebecers who've found a home here - a place, as the parish puts it, "to gather together and pray, to rest from the daily chores of secular life."
Services follow the old-style Julian calendar:
- Saturday, 5:00 PM - Vigil and Confession
- Sunday, 8:30 AM - Confession
- Sunday, 9:15 AM - Divine Liturgy
- Full services on the twelve great feasts and throughout Great Lent
The parish also runs the Alexander Pushkin School, teaching children on Saturdays since 1937: religious education, Russian language and literature, Russian history, Church Slavonic, mathematics, singing, and folk dancing.
