Pochemuchka

Development, Russian Language and Creativity for Kids

In the World Around Us class, kids handle magnets, build a simple electrical circuit, and glue the results of their experiments into their own notebook, this is how Pochemuchka builds an interest in science through hands-on work rather than memorization, all in Russian. The center has been running in Toronto since 1999.

Math here follows Russia's "Школа 2000" methodology, used by roughly 18% of schools in Russia, and the Russian language course is built on a classical curriculum adapted for children growing up outside Russia, alongside other languages. The center's creative-thinking course, which incorporates elements of TRIZ (the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving), teaches kids to invent, argue and find unconventional solutions rather than just memorize the right answer.

Programs at the center:
- Early development school, reading, Russian language and literature
- Math, "World Around Us" science, biology, geography
- Fine arts, needlework, animation studio
- Theatre studio staging plays for children ages 4 to 7, dance, jazz vocals
- French language, chess
- Summer camp

A child psychologist and a speech therapist are available at the center.
