Moscow on the Hill
Аккордеон, водка и русская кухня
A St. Paul institution since 1994, Moscow on the Hill brings the warmth of a Russian dining room to Cathedral Hill - red drapes, chandeliers, and a nightly soundtrack of live accordion. The kitchen turns out classic comfort food: rich beef stroganoff, hand-folded pelmeni and vareniki, cabbage rolls, borscht, and blini piled with caviar, paired with a bar built around house-infused vodkas. A patio, a full bar, and three decades of regulars make this one of the most memorable places to eat in the Twin Cities.
Moscow on the Hill has served the Cathedral Hill neighborhood of St. Paul since 1994, offering an atmosphere and menu built around Russian and Eastern European tradition. The dining room is designed to transport: dim lighting, deep red drapery, ornate chandeliers, and live accordion music that plays through the evening, giving the restaurant a reputation as one of the most distinctive dining experiences in the Twin Cities.
The menu draws on generations of Russian home cooking, reworked as a full restaurant experience:
- Beef stroganoff and Chicken Kiev
- Pelmeni (meat-filled dumplings) and vareniki (potato-cheese dumplings)
- Stuffed cabbage rolls and borscht
- Blini served with caviar
- Vegetarian and gluten-free options throughout the menu
The bar is a destination on its own, built around house-infused vodkas - including a horseradish vodka distilled specifically for the restaurant - poured into cocktails like their signature Bloody Mary, alongside a full selection of classic and specialty drinks. A patio welcomes guests for warm-weather dining, and the restaurant continues to draw both longtime regulars and first-time visitors curious about one of the few authentic Russian dining rooms in Minnesota.
