Saint Sergius Russian Orthodox Cathedral
Orthodox Cathedral in Parma: Liturgy, Russian School, Services of Need
A cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, where vigil is served on Saturday evenings and a school runs alongside the church: Law of God, Russian history, the Russian language and church singing. Here you can be baptized, married, request a memorial service and arrange for a priest to visit your home.
The cathedral belongs to the Chicago and Mid-America Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and is open to anyone who wants to attend a service, go to confession, receive Communion or simply light a candle before an icon. The cathedral Sisterhood, dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, looks after the beauty and upkeep of the church and organizes Sunday meals, picnics and annual bazaars, and a choir sings at the services.
Services and sacraments you can request:
- confession and Communion
- baptism and weddings
- Holy Unction
- funerals and memorial services
- molebens and akathists
- blessing of a home
Many of these services can be held not only in the cathedral but also at home or in a hospital if a person is ill. It is best to arrange a time ahead with the priest by phone. And for children, a school opens every September: a moleben blesses the start of the school year, and the students go on to study the Law of God, Russian history, the Russian language and church singing.
