St Seraphim Orthodox Cathedral
OCA Cathedral in Dallas: Liturgy and Confession in Russian
Once a month, on the third Saturday, the cathedral serves the liturgy in Church Slavonic, preceded by confession in Russian: this is how, since 1954, the cathedral has carefully kept its Russian heritage in the heart of Dallas. Other services are in English: Divine Liturgy begins every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., and Great Vespers is served on Saturday evenings.
The cathedral was built in Russian style, with a two-tier iconostasis and walls covered in traditional murals and icons. A Ukrainian iconographer painted them, and the work was completed in 2009. One visit is enough to understand why many call it one of the most beautiful churches in Dallas. Once a month the cathedral serves in Church Slavonic, and once a month in Spanish, for those who find liturgical English harder to follow.
Parish life does not end with the liturgy: on Sundays the community gathers in the hall for coffee and fellowship, classes for catechumens are available for those curious about Orthodoxy, and a summer camp runs for children. Concerts and feast-day events are held here, and the church bookstore in the hall offers books. Services are also streamed online for those who cannot attend.
Good reasons to visit:
- Pray in a cathedral with painted walls and a two-tier iconostasis
- Make your confession in Russian before the Church Slavonic liturgy
- Learn about Orthodoxy in classes for catechumens
- Watch a service online when you cannot come in person
- Celebrate a feast day together with the parish
The cathedral doors are open to everyone: come to a service, or write to us to learn more about parish life.
