Orthodox Parish of ROCOR: Liturgy, Sunday School, Shared Meal

After the Sunday liturgy, everyone is invited to a shared table, always free of charge. Services follow the traditional church calendar, in English, with hymns and readings in Church Slavonic, and the people praying beside you come from Russia, Ukraine, and Bulgaria as well as from American families who found Orthodoxy. This parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in McKinney, north of Dallas, was re-established in 1988.

Anyone from an Orthodox background will recognize the familiar pieces of these services: the troparion, Epistle, Gospel, and Cherubic hymn are repeated in Church Slavonic while the rest is in English, which makes it easy to pray here whether you grew up in the tradition or came to it recently. Services are not limited to weekends, and the week includes Vespers and Divine Liturgy.

Parish life reaches well beyond the church walls. Children have a Sunday school, the parish has the St. Juliana Sisterhood and the St. John Maximovich Brotherhood, and the rector regularly visits inmates at two prisons. Homilies, catechism talks, and articles about the faith are gathered on the parish website and its video channel.
