In Tarzana, California, Barin turns Friday and Saturday nights into a small celebration: live musicians take the stage while the kitchen sends out Russian and Eastern European dishes made from recipes passed down through more than four generations of the same family. Sunday brings its own separate brunch service from noon to four, and the room reopens that evening for dinner with music and dancing. Barin also hosts private banquets and celebrations for the full room, and the local press has praised its rich soups and everything made the old fashioned way, from scratch.

Barin sits inside the Alley in the Valley shopping center on Reseda Blvd, an unassuming storefront hiding a white-tablecloth dining room with its own stage for live performers and a menu that reaches well beyond Russian classics into dishes from across the former Soviet republics. The restaurant has become a regular venue for private banquets and celebrations, with the full room available to rent for a birthday, anniversary, or wedding party, and a kitchen built to handle large groups.

The dining room is wheelchair accessible, takes reservations in advance, and also caters events held off site.
