The Church of the Holy Ascension
Russian Orthodox Old Rite Church in Gervais
The Church of the Holy Ascension is an Old Rite church of the Belokrinitskaya Hierarchy, located in the historic Old Believer settlement between Gervais and Mount Angel, founded in the 1960s by families who resettled mainly from Turkey and Harbin. Services follow the pre reform Russian Orthodox tradition.
This Old Believer community in Oregon is the largest in North America, bringing together around ten thousand people whose families preserved the pre reform Russian Orthodox tradition across several generations of emigration. We hold:
- Saturday Vigil from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Sunday Liturgy from 6:30 to 10:30 AM
- Services for the twelve great feasts and other major holy days according to the church calendar
Services are conducted in Church Slavonic, following the rite preserved unchanged since before the reforms of the Russian Church.
