Oldest Russian Orthodox Parish, Since 1924
Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Sobor is Vancouver's oldest Russian Orthodox parish, founded in 1924 by Orthodox Christians who fled Bolshevik Russia. Today, under Fr. Michael Furik, the parish holds regular Divine Liturgy and Vespers and runs a full community life, including Sunday school, a church choir, the Joy dance ensemble, pilgrimages, and charity work.
A century of history lives in this parish. Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Sobor traces back to September 14, 1924, when Archimandrite Fr. Antonin Pokrovsky celebrated the first Orthodox Divine Liturgy in Vancouver for Orthodox Christians who had fled Bolshevik Russia. The parish's first church was built in 1929 and survived a serious financial crisis during the Great Depression, saved by the community itself through the Russian Orthodox Society of Vancouver.
Today, under Fr. Michael Furik, the parish offers:
