Future Bakery and Cafe
Bakery with Its Own Dairy Factory Outlet
Future Bakery and Cafe is a bakery paired with the M-C Dairy factory, together forming Torontos only combined bakery-and-dairy factory outlet store. Bread, buns, and bagels are baked fresh daily with no preservatives and no active packaging, alongside kefir, cottage cheese, and cheeses made from organic milk sourced from local Ontario farms.
The story of the bakery began with a Polish grandfather who, after years of study and apprenticeship, earned his diploma as a master baker at the court of Tsar Nicholas and worked there until 1915. On the way home from St. Petersburg he met his future wife, a Ukrainian, and together they opened a bakery in Ternopil. World War II and the arrival of the Red Army forced the family to flee west, and after the war they settled in Canada and opened a small bakery, naming it Future to mark leaving the past behind and looking ahead. The bread is still made from their original recipes.
The range on the shelves is remarkable. The bread aisle alone offers dozens of varieties - rye, Ukrainian, Polish, wedding bread, sourdough, baguettes, and rolls - alongside cakes, tortes, and Danish and English pastries. A home-cooked food line named Aunt Irene features Ukrainian borscht, solyanka, Polish zurek, wild mushroom soup, cabbage rolls with meat and with mushrooms, pierogies with potato and cheese and with mushrooms, homemade kielbasa and kishka, potato pancakes, syrnyky, crepes, and patychky - skewers of meat on a stick - along with fresh salads: beet, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, and olivier. The dairy section goes beyond kefir and cottage cheese to include huslanka, prostokvasha, labneh, and lassi, and the shelves also carry honey with bee pollen, mineral water, oils and vinegars, seafood, and jarred preserves.
The Etobicoke location is set up like a full Eastern European food warehouse - free parking, and everything above under one roof.
