Memorial Church of the Baptism of Rus Millennium in Ottawa
This church was built in 1988 for the millennium of the Baptism of Rus and has since been a spiritual home for everyone seeking quiet and prayer in Canada's capital. Russian emigres of different waves, Ukrainians, Serbs, Bulgarians, Romanians, Greeks, and Canadians who have embraced Orthodoxy pray here side by side.
The parish was founded in the 1950s to serve Russian Orthodox Christians in Ottawa, and the present church, built in 1988, stands as a memorial to a thousand years of Orthodoxy in Rus. Its doors are open to everyone who enters with reverence, and every guest will find a spiritual refuge here.
Come to:
- Pray at the Saturday evening service and the Sunday Divine Liturgy
- Stay after the Liturgy for a home cooked lunch that the church sisterhood serves in the lower hall, except in the summer months
- Browse spiritual books, icons, crosses, and church calendars at the parish bookstore
- Borrow a book from the parish library, which holds literature in several languages
- Bring your children to Sunday school and to the parish school, where lessons are taught in Russian and English
The Saint Vladimir home for seniors stands next to the church. Anyone who wants to learn more about Orthodoxy or become a member of the parish is welcome to come to a service and meet the community.
