Bentley Bentayga for fishing enthusiasts
Mulliner has unveiled one of the most unusual bespoke versions of the Bentley Bentayga luxury SUV. Created for enthusiasts of fly fishing and equipped with everything needed for a refined day by the river, the model is called the Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner.
This version of the Bentayga shows just how far personalization can go in the world of ultra-luxury automobiles. It is not simply a matter of special paint, fine leather or decorative trim. It is a fully considered fly-fishing set integrated into the luggage compartment in a way that preserves both practicality and the unmistakable elegance of a Bentley.
At the rear of the vehicle are three leather-trimmed modules: a master tackle station, a refreshment case and a waterproof trunk for storing waders. All three are finished in warm Saddle leather with contrast stitching. Inside the master tackle station is a Burr Walnut-veneered drawer containing a fly-tying vice, tools, hooks, cotton, feathers and other essentials for fly fishing.
The separate refreshment case is designed for a leisurely pause by the water. It includes space for three metal flasks, a set of Mulliner fine-china tableware and a dedicated food compartment. The unit can be removed from the car and used as a seat. The hand-crafted waterproof trunk is lined with neoprene and intended for wet waders and used fishing equipment, helping keep the cabin and luggage area clean.
Beneath the parcel shelf are four Hardy Zephrus rods stored in special leather-trimmed tubes, while a bespoke side compartment in the luggage area holds two landing nets in matching leather bags. Every item is created and packaged with the level of detail expected from Mulliner. The team crafted the set by hand, turning fishing not merely into a hobby, but into an extension of the Bentley owner’s lifestyle.
“Fly fishing is a sport requiring specialist equipment and clothing, so it was important to accommodate rods, reels, waders and boots, as well as the tackle station, while preserving the elegant and luxurious appearance of the Bentayga,” said Mulliner director Geoff Dowding.
To protect the vehicle after a trip into nature, waterproof boot-floor and rear-sill-protection covers are integrated into the rear of the Bentayga. An electronic dehumidifier also helps keep the space fresh and dry. Mulliner Welcome Lights are built into the lower sections of the doors: when the doors are opened, Bentley and Mulliner logos are projected onto the ground. Through the personalization programme, customers can also specify their own logo or graphic.
The Bentayga was the first SUV in Bentley’s history and one of the most important models in the brand’s modern era. It made its world debut in 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The original Bentayga was powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine producing around 600 hp, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.1 seconds and reach a top speed of around 301 km/h.
The Bentayga Fly Fishing by Mulliner is not a mass-market special edition so much as a demonstration of Bentley’s philosophy: a car can be created not only for a destination, but for a way of life. For some, that may mean a business flight and an urban residence. For others, it means a country house, a private river, an early morning and perfectly packed fishing rods in the luggage compartment of one of the world’s most luxurious SUVs.
