The new Bentley Flying Spur

Sports sedan meets luxury limousine

The new Bentley Flying Spur is one of the most advanced luxury sports sedans in the Grand Touring class. Designed for both the driver and the passengers, the Flying Spur combines the comfort of a limousine with the dynamics of a large sports sedan, bringing together commanding design, exceptional handcrafted quality and Bentley’s most advanced technologies.

Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, said: “As with the launch of the Continental GT, the new Flying Spur is a ground-up development that pushes the boundaries of both technology and craftsmanship to deliver segment-defining levels of performance and refinement.”

Designed, engineered and handcrafted at Bentley’s only factory in Crewe, England, the Flying Spur demonstrates the brand’s rare ability to combine advanced engineering, modern handcraftsmanship and innovative features in a single automobile. The new Flying Spur raises the standard of quality, attention to detail and comfort, becoming one of the most refined ultra-luxury sports sedans of its era.

The elegant and athletic silhouette of the new Flying Spur reveals Bentley’s modern sculptural design language. New LED matrix headlights with a cut-crystal effect are enhanced by chrome sleeves and harmonize with panoramic rear lamps featuring a B-shaped lighting signature. The design of the new wheels, including optional 22-inch Mulliner designs, emphasizes the Flying Spur’s individuality and unmistakable presence.

For the first time on a modern Bentley Flying Spur, the bonnet is crowned with a retractable Flying B mascot. Created especially for the new generation, it features a dedicated design, electric deployment and illumination, becoming not merely an ornament, but part of the car’s theatrical welcome ceremony.

The new Flying Spur is a showcase of Bentley engineering and one of the most innovative luxury sports sedans in the Grand Touring class. Its technologies are made possible by a new platform, an advanced structure using aluminium and composite materials, and a 48-volt electrical architecture.

The Flying Spur became the first Bentley to combine all-wheel steering with active all-wheel drive and Bentley Dynamic Ride. This combination delivers remarkable handling, stability and comfort. New three-chamber air springs broaden the range of suspension settings — from the softness of a luxury limousine to the firm, composed feel of a sports car. The result is a Flying Spur with capabilities rarely associated with an ultra-luxury sedan of this size.

The new Flying Spur is available with a wide range of driver assistance systems, including Traffic Assist, Pedestrian Warning, Blind Spot Warning, surround-view cameras and other technologies. Its advanced body structure uses multiple materials to combine stiffness, safety, comfort and dynamic performance.

The model is powered by an enhanced version of Bentley’s legendary 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that shifts faster, more smoothly and more efficiently. The TSI engine produces 635 PS, or 626 bhp, and 900 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.8 seconds, while top speed reaches 333 km/h.

The wheelbase, extended by 130 mm, makes the luxurious Flying Spur cabin even more spacious and comfortable. In addition to a rich selection of single and dual-veneer wood finishes, the car offers new leather seat upholstery with vertical fluting. As part of the Mulliner Driving Specification, customers can order distinctive diamond quilting for the seats, as well as the automotive industry’s first three-dimensional diamond-quilted leather door inserts.

Modern handcraftsmanship blends seamlessly with technologies designed to enhance comfort for both driver and passengers. A high-definition digital instrument cluster, the unique Bentley Rotating Display in the centre console — allowing a choice between a 12.3-inch touchscreen, elegant analogue dials or a smooth veneer surface — and a touchscreen remote control for rear-seat passengers all create an atmosphere of exceptional luxury and control inside the Flying Spur.

For connoisseurs of modern luxury, an optional panoramic glass sunroof extends almost the full length of the roof.

Flying Spur — an entirely new design

The bold and expressive appearance of the new Flying Spur brings Bentley’s legendary style into a modern form. Compared with the second generation, the wheelbase has been increased by 130 mm, giving the car a more substantial, elongated and confident presence. Strong athletic lines run the full length of the body, emphasizing its powerful silhouette.

The new Flying Spur was created from the ground up on an all-new platform. Its sculptural surfaces and sharp body lines were made possible by aluminium superforming technology, first used on the new Bentley Continental GT.

Through advanced use of aluminium profiles, castings and high-strength steel, Bentley achieved a highly rigid body structure, providing an essential foundation for precise handling and a high level of comfort.

LED matrix headlights with a unique cut-crystal effect are standard on the Flying Spur. Thanks to chrome sleeves, the facets sparkle even when the lights are switched off. The panoramic rear lamps with Bentley’s signature B-shaped light graphic echo the diamond knurling of the air vents inside the cabin. 21-inch wheels are standard, while two 22-inch Mulliner wheel designs are available as optional equipment.

An optional panoramic glass sunroof spans the roof. The front panel tilts and slides rearward over the fixed rear panel. The electrically operated blinds are finished in Alcantara, matched to one of the available headlining colours.

For the first time, the bonnet of a modern Bentley Flying Spur is adorned with the retractable Flying B mascot. In Bentley’s centenary year, the emblem received a new design suited to the brand’s next century. Electrically deployed and illuminated, it is linked to the welcome lighting sequence and the keyless entry system, rising from the bonnet as the driver approaches the car.

Another distinctive feature of the Flying Spur is its gloss-black radiator grille with bright chrome surround and vertical vanes. It also recalls the legendary Bentley S1 Continental Flying Spur of 1957. The lower grille can also be specified in black or bright chrome.

The standard exterior paint palette for the Flying Spur has been expanded to 17 colours, carefully selected by Bentley’s craftspeople to enhance the character and design of the car.

Magnificent handcrafted interior

The interior of the new Flying Spur showcases Bentley’s mastery of luxury that does not need to shout, yet can be felt in every detail. The stylish and unique cabin features exceptionally comfortable seats available in 15 leather colours. The dashboard, shaped like two wings rising from the centre console, echoes the famous Bentley emblem.

These “wings” flow smoothly around both sides of the instrument panel, continue into the doors and form a continuous ring of wood around the front of the spacious cabin, emphasizing its width. The elegant floating centre console incorporates a configurable 12.3-inch high-definition touchscreen, new sculpted Bentley centre vents serving the front and rear cabin areas, and a storage compartment with inductive wireless charging and two USB ports for mobile devices.

The new Flying Spur can also be specified with the signature Bentley Rotating Display. When the engine start button is pressed, the veneered section in the centre of the dashboard rotates to reveal a 12.3-inch touchscreen with three customizable digital tiles. The second side presents three elegant analogue gauges: a thermometer, compass and chronometer. The third side allows occupants to escape technology entirely and simply admire the smooth veneer surface that continues the decorative ring around the cabin.

Another example of Bentley’s exceptional attention to detail is the new sculpted air vents, engineered with almost jewel-like precision. They replace the traditional round bullseye vents on either side of the Bentley clock. Subtle bronze accents on the clock and gear selector further emphasize the interior’s refined character.

For the first time in a production car, three-dimensional diamond-quilted leather door inserts are used, inspired by the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept. New diamond knurling appears on the rotary controls and is also available for the air vents and clock bezels. To create these details, Bentley developed a new software algorithm capable of working precisely with the complex curves of the air ducts.

As an additional option, the new Flying Spur offers Crown Cut Walnut veneer, produced by a straight-cut process that gives the finish a more contemporary look. In addition to popular Dark Fiddleback and Piano Black finishes, five further veneer choices are available. A dual-veneer combination of Bentley decorative finishes can also be specified, giving the cabin even greater individuality.

The wing theme continues on the door panels, creating an elegant colour treatment and a smooth visual transition between the front and rear of the cabin. Optional mood lighting offers adjustable intensity and a choice of seven colours.

The Flying Spur is fitted with new seats featuring twin vertical fluting and a wide range of functions, including heating, ventilation, several massage modes, lumbar adjustment and upper backrest angle adjustment. The Mulliner Driving Specification adds new leather craftsmanship with three-dimensional quilting, traditional stitching and embroidery.

The rear cabin is a luxurious and intimate space for travel, with a folding centre armrest and a manually folding centre headrest. When not in use, the headrest can be stowed to provide the clearest possible rear view.

Exceptional power and agility

The new Bentley Flying Spur is powered by a twin-turbocharged W12 TSI engine that sets high standards for ride quality, agility and performance. The engine is designed and built in Crewe.

It is one of the most advanced 12-cylinder power units of its time. Thanks to its unique W configuration, it is significantly shorter than a comparable V12, improving weight distribution and helping to maximize cabin space.

Using the latest engine management technology, the new Flying Spur delivers significantly stronger performance than its predecessor. The powertrain produces 635 PS, or 626 bhp, and 900 Nm of torque. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 333 km/h.

The front axle of the new Flying Spur has been moved forward, improving weight distribution, refining dynamics and handling, and balancing the operation of active all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering and Bentley Dynamic Ride.

The new Flying Spur is equipped with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It delivers smooth acceleration, rapid shifts and improved efficiency. By pre-selecting the next gear, the transmission allows changes with minimal interruption in torque delivery. The car reaches its maximum speed in sixth gear, while seventh and eighth serve as overdrive ratios for more economical cruising.

The previous-generation Flying Spur used permanent all-wheel drive with a fixed 60:40 rear-to-front torque split. The new model adopts a rear-biased driveline with a clutch to engage the front axle. When road conditions deteriorate or wheel slip is detected, the system automatically sends the required amount of torque to the front wheels. Cornering response is also significantly improved: the front end feels lighter and changes direction more readily. The understeer often associated with permanent all-wheel drive is reduced to a minimum, making the car feel more balanced.

Torque distribution depends on the selected Drive Dynamic mode. In Comfort and Bentley modes, the system can send more torque to the front axle to improve traction and stability. In Sport mode, torque transfer to the front is limited, preserving a more rear-biased character for dynamic driving. Torque is also distributed between the wheels on the same axle through torque vectoring.

Electronic all-wheel steering improves stability during high-speed manoeuvres and agility at low speeds. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This creates the effect of a shorter wheelbase, reduces the turning circle, increases manoeuvrability and makes parking much easier.

At higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels, improving stability and confidence during lane changes. The system allows the Flying Spur to combine motorway composure with city manoeuvrability without the usual compromise between the two.

The new Flying Spur uses three-chamber air springs with 60 percent more air volume than the previous model’s suspension. This broadens the range of settings: depending on the selected mode, the suspension can feel firm and sporting or soft and limousine-like. The CDC, or Continuous Damping Control, system constantly adjusts damper stiffness within the air suspension.

Four ride-height sensors continuously measure the distance between the axle and the body. If the system detects a deviation from the normal position, it adjusts the air volume in the springs to restore the correct ride height.

Bentley Dynamic Ride improves both handling and comfort. The 48-volt system controls electromechanical actuators in the anti-roll bars, counteracting lateral roll forces and keeping the Flying Spur’s body composed.

Like the Continental GT, the new Flying Spur is equipped with some of the largest steel brake discs fitted to any production car. The front brake discs measure 420 mm in diameter. Bentley logos appear on the front and rear calipers. Standard calipers are finished in gloss black, while gloss red calipers are available as an option.

The noble sound of the new Flying Spur is achieved through an active exhaust valve with variable settings. The system regulates exhaust flow at the rear of the system, allowing the exhaust note to be softened and made less noticeable inside the cabin when required.

Intelligent technologies of the new Flying Spur

The new Flying Spur is equipped with intelligent, intuitive systems for the driver and passengers, fully in keeping with the status of a modern Bentley.

The 12.3-inch display in the centre of the dashboard allows convenient control of vehicle functions via the touchscreen and additional physical buttons. The high-definition screen is fitted with a proximity sensor: as a hand approaches, virtual controls are highlighted, ensuring fast response to commands.

The user can choose which information appears on the display and can view one, two or three screens at the same time.

The new Flying Spur is available with a wide range of driver assistance systems, including Traffic Assist, Pedestrian Warning and Blind Spot Warning. Night Vision and the Head-Up Display help the driver focus on the road, while the Top View camera system shows the area around the car from a bird’s-eye perspective. It can be supplemented by Reversing Assistant and autonomous parking assistance.

LED matrix headlights allow the car to be driven with high beam constantly activated without dazzling other road users. When required, the system switches off individual segments of the light beam, creating a corridor for oncoming vehicles.

The new touchscreen remote control for rear-seat passengers is made from high-quality materials. Hidden in the console, it can be removed easily at the touch of a button. It controls numerous vehicle functions, including all sun blinds, rear-seat massage functions, rear climate control and mood lighting settings.

Three audio systems are available for the new Flying Spur. The standard system includes 10 speakers and a 650-watt amplifier. The Bang and Olufsen system is aimed at those who value sound as well as style, with a 1,500-watt amplifier, 16 illuminated speakers and the BeoSonic interface for simple control of the sound character.

The Naim for Bentley system is created for true audiophiles. It includes a 2,200-watt amplifier, 19 speakers, Active Bass Transducers built into the front seats and eight sound modes.
