The warmth of the sun is always with you
New E-Class convertible from Mercedes-Benz
With the launch of the new E-Class Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz brings its E-Class family to completion. This open-top four-seater with a classic fabric roof combines sensual, purist design with exceptional long-distance comfort for four and the latest in advanced technology.
Among its highlights are extended smartphone integration with wireless charging and vehicle-key functionality, a widescreen cockpit, and the most up-to-date driver assistance systems. Powerful engines and refined suspension options create a driving experience defined by sporty luxury.
With the new Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz introduces the fifth and youngest member of the E-Class family, completing the model line’s full renewal within a single year. At the same time, the Stuttgart-based marque reaffirms its long tradition of building cabriolets with classic fabric soft tops — and continues to set the benchmark high. “The passion for extraordinary cars that we share with our customers is expressed in a very special way in our new E-Class Cabriolet,” said Britta Seeger, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales. “It offers the opportunity to enjoy comfort and luxury while travelling under the open sky.”
With the roof raised, the E-Class Cabriolet echoes the silhouette of the E-Class Coupé, displaying the same expressive proportions. Their close relationship is also emphasized by a purist design language focused on clean surfaces, reduced lines, and sensuous forms. Temperamental yet composed, the car’s styling embodies both beauty and intelligence, defining the character of this cabriolet while giving it an independent and unmistakable identity — especially with the top down.
The striking front end, with its low-positioned diamond radiator grille and centrally placed star, high-performance LED headlamps, long bonnet with powerdomes, and fully retractable side windows all underline the cabriolet’s dynamic presence. The taut fabric soft top, with its integrated rear window, flows organically into the athletic rear section. The sporty character of this four-seater is further emphasized by elongated, sensuously sculpted shoulders and two-piece, extremely slim LED tail lights. The rear lamps also create a brilliant, jewel-like appearance reminiscent of the glow of a jet engine. Their lighting choreography has been updated as well, with a sequence that both welcomes and bids farewell to the vehicle’s owner.
With the roof lowered, the harmony between the exterior and interior design becomes especially clear, highlighted by refined details. A visual composition of anodized and polished aluminium — matt aluminium in the AMG Line — is formed by the decorative trim on the A-pillar and along the windscreen, the moulding along the side of the body, and the wide trim element surrounding the soft-top compartment. The third brake light, positioned beneath transparent glass, is elegantly integrated into this frame.
The luxurious yet sporty character of the E-Class Cabriolet is also emphasized by its suspension, which is lowered by 15 mm compared with the sedan. Even in combination with the standard 17-inch wheels, this gives the car a confidently athletic stance.
Premium-Class Fabric Soft Top
The fabric soft top is available in black, dark brown, dark blue, and dark red. As standard, it is designed as a fully automatic acoustic soft top with enhanced sound insulation. Its multilayer construction, incorporating sophisticated insulation solutions, reduces wind and road noise. As a result, the driver and passengers can hear one another clearly even at higher speeds. The soft top’s construction also has a positive effect on climate comfort, giving the cabriolet genuine all-season usability.
Developed on the basis of the soft top used in the S-Class Cabriolet, it also meets high standards of quality in terms of durability and functionality. It takes just 20 seconds to open or close fully, and the process can be carried out at speeds of up to 50 km/h. When lowered, the fabric roof folds quietly and neatly into the soft-top compartment in the boot. The remaining luggage area is separated from the folded roof by a dedicated cover. When the fully electric operation is ordered as part of the optional Cabriolet Comfort Package, the driver does not need to stop the vehicle to position this divider manually. The boot capacity of 385 litres — or 310 litres with the roof lowered — ensures excellent everyday practicality. A new feature is the 50:50 split-folding rear seat backrests with through-loading capability for longer items, further increasing the car’s usability in daily life.
Interior: Modern Style and Sporty Luxury
The interior of the new E-Class is defined by a clear underlying form. The upper section of the dashboard appears to float in the air, supported by a large decorative trim element that flows sensuously into the front door panels. The selection of particularly refined materials and the way they are used throughout the cabin emphasize the car’s sporty, stylish character and create an impression of outstanding quality.
Two optional high-resolution 12.3-inch displays — a distinctive feature in this segment — merge beneath a shared glass cover to form a single widescreen cockpit. It appears to float freely, while still being elegantly held between the upper and lower sections of the dashboard. For the virtual instrument cluster, the driver can choose between three display styles: Classic, Sport, and Progressive.
The entry-level model combines two round instruments with a 7-inch colour display and an 8.4-inch central display. The round instruments, the instrument cluster, and the central display are framed together by a high-gloss piano-lacquer surround.
A strong sporting accent is provided by the Silvershadow air vents, whose form was inspired by the design of turbojet engines.
The driver has several ways to operate the instrument cluster, multimedia system, and other vehicle functions: Touch Control buttons on the steering wheel for swipe gestures, a touchpad with handwriting recognition, a controller on the centre console, the LINGUATRONIC voice control system, and direct-access buttons, for example for the climate-control system or for conveniently switching certain assistance systems on and off.
Avant-garde in design, the luxurious seats are configured as four individual seats with a sporty character. The front sport seats, designed as integral seats with built-in seat belts, feature pronounced side bolsters, head restraints integrated into the seat shape, and the optional AIRSCARF neck-level heating system. Automatic belt presenters assist the front occupants when fastening their seat belts. The rear seats now not only allow through-loading of longer items, but can also be equipped with heating — further emphasizing the cabriolet’s all-season capability and its status as a true four-seater.
Fine materials and a modern colour palette come together to create sporty contemporary luxury. The striking yacht-blue finish combined with macchiato beige gives the cabriolet a stunning and exclusive yacht-like atmosphere. Optional sun-reflecting leather is available in five colours. In addition, nine different trim options are offered, including two innovative light-wood finishes in open-pore or high-gloss versions.
Only durable and energy-efficient LEDs are used for interior lighting. The same applies to the optional extended ambient lighting system with 64 colours, which in the cabriolet includes a special rear-cabin light integrated into the lining of the soft top.
The Warmth of the Sun, Always with You
Those who choose a cabriolet prefer to drive with the roof down as often as possible. In the E-Class Cabriolet, maximum open-air comfort is made possible by the optional AIRCAP automatic draught-stop system and the AIRSCARF neck-level heating system, which make fresh-air driving far more enjoyable even at lower temperatures. The AIRCAP system was developed specifically for Mercedes-Benz cabriolets. It consists of a discreet electrically operated louvre module integrated into the upper frame above the windscreen, as well as an electrically operated wind deflector positioned behind the rear seats. At the touch of a button, the system reduces air turbulence, including in the rear passenger area. AIRCAP is part of the Cabriolet Comfort Package, which also includes AIRSCARF. At low temperatures, AIRSCARF directs warm air around the neck and back of the head of the driver and front passenger. Together, these two systems make it possible to enjoy the cabriolet experience even on cooler days.
Larger and More Luxurious
Compared with its predecessor, the E-Class Cabriolet has grown in length, width, and wheelbase. Measuring 4826 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1428 mm in height, the new E-Class Cabriolet is significantly larger in all these dimensions. The front track has been increased to 1605 mm, a gain of 67 mm, while the rear track has grown to 1609 mm, an increase of 68 mm, primarily improving the vehicle’s dynamics. Rear passengers benefit especially from the considerably enlarged footprint. On each of the four full-size individual seats, the driver and passengers can enjoy genuine comfort on long journeys.
